Saturday Morning PSA of The Week: But do they get a juice and cookie break during all this work?

Today's public service announcements are all information and no imagination--but yesteryear's? Those were full of drama, plot lines, and cameos from B-grade celebrities, all wedged into one minute of absolute fantasticness.

Consider this a trip back in time to when PSAs were sometimes worth watching more than the Saturday morning cartoons.

Today:  Cheap labor never sounded so good.

Random Thoughts and Questions:
1.)  "Psst. Psst. PSST! You're on, Governor." --Said by the director of this PSA probably.
2.)  The statues on Easter Island are less rigid than this guy.
3.)  Soooo, you're just letting us know boy scouts are going to be some free child labor?
4.)  Meanwhile, the Girl Scouts were raking in the bucks by making all of us happy with their cookies. No one can deny a Thin Mint or Samoas.

Western Washington University students want to create the College of Power and Liberation.

"Haha, okay, that's cute."

Over 500 students and individuals at Western Washington University have signed a petition demanding their school spend $100,000 creating a new college within the system. You know, because $100,000 is a nice, round figure, and you can demand anything you want for nice, round figures. James Bond movies teach us that.

Channeling their inner Che Guevara, the students want the "College of Power and Liberation" to be created so the university will start "providing space and resources to learn alternate histories, supporting student’s non academic work, emotional and intellectual labor that is not about publishing or service to the institution, providing often unrecognized trainings, workshops, and/or interventions on behalf of students."

I'm not certain what emotional labor is, but it sounds intense.

Using over 3,300 words to explain their demands, and eschewing Guevara, the students want $50,000 of that money to be devoted to "to put on an opening event that will introduce the College and its mission."

It sounds like a mission to throw one hell of a party. Who doesn't love $50,000 galas? Priorities, people!

150 teachers took to Seattle's streets to protest Bill Gates and the Common Core Standards.

Bill Gates is Bruce Lee.

Bill and Melinda Gates, through their foundation, have put upwards of $230 million toward establishing the Common Core Standards, using their political muscle to have the initiative moved through a variety of political hurdles to find it adopted by 45 states.

Yet, not everyone is thrilled by the Common Core Standards, which caused 150 teachers protesting in the streets of Seattle, a march that led to the doors of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

As teacher Noam Gurdle told Seattle's King 5 News, "I find the notion that educators are reluctant to be open to these crazy, untested, scientifically unproven ideas to be absolutely abhorrent." (Gurdle apparently loves to add a dash of sarcasm to things.)

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation eventually released a statement to the media, one that kills its opponents with kindness, subtly pats themselves on the back, all while ignoring the teachers' concerns.

Says the Foundation:

"Teachers guide much of our education work at the foundation. We are engaged in a constant conversation with great teachers here in Washington State and all across the country about what they need to help all their students succeed and how we can best support them. While not all teachers agree on how best to make that happen, they are all dedicated and passionate about their students. We share that passion with the educators we work with every day."

I'd like to know who guides the rest of the "education work at the foundation," if not teachers. Parents? Administrators? Bruce Lee and Batman? Who else?
