The death of print newspapers is causing chaos at puppy shelters.

So says the San Francisco animal control agency which runs a puppy shelter.

The puppies are "poop machines," says Eric Zuercher, supervisor at the facility, to the Associated Press. The formerly abundant supply of old, used San Francisco Chronicle papers have dwindled with online newspaper subscriptions, which has led to a lack of puppy crate liners and, in turn, puppy poop overwhelming the shelter.

Your online subscription to a newspaper is why an abandoned puppy can't poop in peace.

Remember that when you're reading the New York Times book reviews online.
