Kevin Hogan is a teacher at a Malden, MA, charter school. The local Fox News affiliate found out from a tip that Hogan acted in a few gay pornography movies in his past.
Teacher?
Porn?
Gay??
Film at 11!!!
Or breaking news at 6pm, specifically. Fox News Boston did their best Gotcha Journalism impersonation on their 6pm newscast last night and ran up to Hogan, video camera in tow, asking about his past.
Now, everyone is up in arms that a teacher was once employed in a different career field altogether. The mayor-elect of Malden is happy that Hogan has been put on paid administrative leave, people are flustered, and some parents at the school where Hogan teaches are outraged.
According to Fox News Boston, no student or parent complained about Hogan. Indeed, it was a random, anonymous viewer who called in to report Hogan after viewing gay porn movies in which they thought they recognized him, and suddenly became concerned he was teaching.
Call me a pinko Commie, but what's the beef here? Parents and students alike said Hogan never mentioned his past, never acted inappropriately, and by all standards was a great teacher. Now, likely, Hogan will lose his job as a teacher, probably never attain another teaching position, and largely have his career path snuffed out because of a past life decision.
Doesn't it seem like the real oddity here is that a concerned viewer calls a news station after obsessively watching the same "alternative" entertainment choice which somehow instills panic in them when it shows a teacher? Pot = kettle, no? Shouldn't a camera crew show up at this viewer's job and ask if they watch gay porn and what that says about them? Is this viewer incapable of working at their job because they enjoy such an activity?
Don't worry, reader. I don't care what you've done in your past. And I won't show up with a video camera asking you about it either.
*I don't know what the photo of Mr. Happy on the beach is supposed to mean. What kind of photo do you post to a story like this? Any other photo will offend someone on either side of the argument. So Mr. Happy it is.
