King Richard III, found buried in a parking lot, now to be interred in a nearby cathedral.

King Richard III, the last British monarch to die in battle and whom Shakespeare wrote a play about, was discovered buried under a Leicester, England, cathedral parking lot in 2012.

After exhuming the body and verifying that, indeed, it was Richard, a legal battle ensued over where the body should be re-interred. A group calling itself the Plantagenet Alliance (note: worst potential LARP name ever), who claims to be distantly related to Richard III, and led by Stephen Nicolay, Richard III's 16th grand nephew, argued in court that the former king should be buried in York, a city they believed Richard III was most fond of. (He was the last monarch of the House of York after all.)

The courts disagreed, deciding that Richard will be re-interred at the same cathedral whose parking lot he called home for centuries.

Considering that history suggests Richard III was not a pleasant person--even Shakespeare's interpretation of the man is a machiavellian mastermind with homicidal tendencies--being allowed in a church is a step up in life (or death).

No one really cared when they buried King Richard III.

No one cared or grave diggers were in a hurry, say researchers who dug up Richard's body under a parking lot recently. Hurry? Carelessness? No matter the reason, scholars say in their latest follow-up report Richard was buried "with minimal reverence" after his defeat at the Battle of Bosworth Field, which ended the War of the Roses.

Admittedly, researchers say, Richard's deceased body had been on public display for multiple days at the height of summer, so his body was probably deteriorating badly at that point.

Oh, that silly little fact of decomposing bodies in summer.

King Richard III kind of looked like a stereotypical villain in a bad historical drama.

Like a no-name actor that you can't place a name to, but you've seen his face before. You suspect he played some duplicitous, smiling, used car salesman of a monarch in a third rate Hollywood interpretation of the late Middle Ages and probably does medieval dinner theater in Brighton, England, today. That's King Richard III. The real one.

As told earlier, old Dick's bones were thought to be found in a parking lot recently. Testing now confirms Dick was parked on for centuries. So what did he look like when they found him? This guy:

WORRRRRRD UP! He looks like a contributor to Yo! MTV Raps, circa 1991.

Now, scientists have recreated what they believe Dick looked like, and as you can imagine, he was quite the eye candy:

Richard III or the lovechild of Prince Williams and Kate Middleton?

Pippa? Pippa??

Remains believed to be King Richard III discovered.

That's the same Richard III Shakespeare wrote a play about, the one that starts with Now is the winter of our discontent. The same Richard III that wasn't a terribly pleasant fellow, who occasionally enjoyed murdering people to position himself on the throne. The same Richard III who had two rebellions against him, one of which was successful. The same Richard III who died in the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485 during the War of the Roses, became the last English monarch to die in battle, and was buried in an unmarked grave.

That Richard III--he was potentially found buried under a modern day church parking lot in Leicester, England.
