Juan Felipe Herrera is the new U.S. Poet Laureate

Herrera has grand plans, including a project called La Casa de Colores, where Americans are invited to provide a verse to an epic poem describing the American experience. The poem's title will be "La Familia."

While major news, the other "Wait a minute..." moment here is that Herrera is from Fresno, CA. So was Philip Levine, who served as U.S. Poet Laureate 2011-2012.

Fresno, people. That's like the Sheboygan of California. And it's pumping out United States Poet Laureates like it's a vending machine at a highway rest area.

Speaking of which, Sheboygan needs to pick up its poetry game.
