George R.R. Martin and his novella about Westeros dragons.

While the sixth book in the Song of Ice and Fire series is still in the works, author George R.R. Martin has offered up a series precursor of sorts in the form of a novella.

Entitled "The Princes and the Queen, or The Blacks and the Greens," the story is a historical outline of Westeros ages and ages before King Joffrey got his hands on the Iron Throne. Detailing a civil war between a Princess Rhaenyra and Queen Alicent that utilizes dragons. Lots and lots of dragons.

As io9 writes:

You learn a lot more about dragon husbandry in this story, including the mechanics of just who can and cannot ride a dragon, and there's also a ton of detail about dragon battle strategy.

Dragon battle strategy.

It's like a sexed-up, geekified history of the German Luftwaffe.
