Twitter was almost called Friendstalker.

That's one of the revelations from an upcoming book by columnist Nick Bilton, which will be featured in this Sunday's New York Times magazine.

Other noteworthy Twitter facts from the book:
  •  Twitter was also almost called Twitch and Vibrate.
  • Co-founder Jack Dorsey "habitually left (work) around 6pm for drawing classes, hot yoga sessions and a course at a local fashion school."
  • Twitter initially was going to be 160 characters or fewer, before it was lowered to 140.
  • Al Gore tried buying Twitter "one night over copious amounts of wine and Patron tequila at his St. Regis suite in San Francisco."
Al Gore on a tequila bender. Who saw this going there?
