Oprah picks Ayana Mathis's debut novel for her book club.

Apparently the book club is still a thing?

Oprah says that the debut novel from Ayana Mathis will be the book club's next selection, which is big news considering Mathis...you know...never released a book before. Oprah has her reasons though.

"The opening pages of Ayana's debut took my breath away," Winfrey said in a statement, apparently while taking a hit off an inhaler. "I can't remember when I read anything that moved me in quite this way, besides the work of Toni Morrison."

[[Phew]] Toni Morrison snuck in there at the end. That was close. I thought Oprah might compliment a writer without invoking Morrison's name.
