Newport Beach Library believes library doesn't actually need books.

I've often been inside a library and wondered why there were so many books cluttering up the joint. Turns out libraries used to be for something called "reading."

This whole "reading" thing apparently is when the eyes move back and forth, usually left to right, and processes the letters and grammar into things called "words" and "sentences." Even more mind blowing is when these words and sentences become things called "stories."

Well, good news then. The bastion of intellectual and creative thought, Newport Beach, CA, has decided it should close its original library and replace it with a community center--minus the books. It'll kind of be like Netflix, they say.

Thank God. I was worried the next generation of southern Californians might want to be literate. Phew. That was a close one.
