The first public school in America finally named its first minority headmaster.

Boston Latin High School was founded in 1635 as the first high school in the United States. In its nearly 400-years of existence, it has never had someone of any minority race actually be its headmaster. I assume they don't like to rush into things.

This past week, though, the school announced that Rachel Skerrit, a former graduate and African-American, would become the next headmaster. This is great news for a school that in recent years has shown faculty to have developed a culture and create issues with bias against non-white students.

A new headmaster is something. Baby steps to be sure, but a change in the right direction on a long road to walk.
