Admittedly, he died at the age of 40, and had very few stories published during his lifetime. Franz Kafka is the literary equivalent of rock musicians who die much too early, like Jimi Hendrix or Jim Morrison--which means a small, cult-like following has developed around him. And I know when you think sex symbols, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and Franz Kafka are like mirror images of one another.
A 32-page booklet that qualified as a passport for Kafka--with 12 pages full of travel stamps and the author's signature, which dates from 1922--went to auction recently. Early estimates placed the sale price somewhere between $10,000-$15,000.
It sold for roughly three times the estimate, going for $37,500.
The booklet details the locations throughout Germany and Austria Kafka was visiting for medical treatment, lists his profession as an insurance officer, and gives a physical description of the author.
I assume it just says "sexy."
