Gene Hackman has apparently quit acting and is now writing books full-time.

Gene Hackman has been nominated for five Academy Awards, winning twice--once for Best Actor in 1971 for The French Connection, and then for Best Supporting Actor in 1992 for Unforgiven.

But he hasn't appeared on screen in ten years, creating an unannounced bow from the stage, and leaving his movie fans wondering if he's coming back.

The answer? No. Gene Hackman's too busy being an author.

That's right, Popeye Doyle is now a full-time novelist. Starting in 1999, Hackman turned to writing, co-authoring three novels with varying plots (sea adventure! Civil War adventure! crime thriller adventure!), before striking out on his lonesome. Now the novelist of two books of his own, the latest another crime thriller called Pursuit, Hackman tells Yahoo! Movies he has no intention of ever acting again. So he'll never appear on screen again?

"Only in reruns," he says.

See what we did there? The Oscars are tonight, and it's a story about an Oscar winner-turned-writer. Crafty, eh? Ehh??

Okay, it's not, I'll grant you that.
