A chess set made out of letters is a thing.

UK design consultants hat-trick design have created a typographic chess set using chess notation for the pieces. (K for king, Q for queen, Kt for knight, etc.)

For all of you typography junkies, apparently the font is Champion (lightweight) by Hoefler Frere Jones and cut from 25mm acrylic.
