If you don't know what Soul Train was, odds are your parents didn't love you or you're socially awkward. (Which explains your love life.) Soul Train was music. Soul Train was American Bandstand if American Bandstand knew how to dance. Soul Train was an outlet for new music before MTV was born and bastardized.
And Soul Train was hosted by the smooth, the cool, the oh, so very soulful...Don Cornelius.
Apparently the dancing had to stop, because Don Cornelius killed himself yesterday, dead at the age of 75.
Yup, that's a downer. So let's look back fondly on the good ol' days. Here's Don Cornelius chatting with Mary Wilson (of The Supremes) before kicking it to the Soul Train line. His voice is smoother than a well-aged wine, and his hair more enthralling than a sun at dusk.
As my friend said about this video: fast forward to 2:47 to see Don get down. Fast forward to 4:46 to see Don really get down:
Love, peace, and soul, Don.
