The 2014 Pulitzer Prize Winners were announced. You earn a little extra self-respect if you read any of them.

Now's as good a time as any to read an award-winning book and sound like you know what you're talking about in literary social settings.

The 2014 Pulitzer Prize winners were announced. They're a lot like the 2013 Pulitzer Prize winners, in that winning a Pulitzer doesn't hold the cachet it once had.

The winners:

Fiction:
The Goldfinch, by Donna Tartt

Drama:
The Flick
, by Annie Baker

History:
The Internal Enemy: Slavery and War in Virginia, 1772-1832, by Alan Taylor

Biography:
Margaret Fuller: A New American Life, by Megan Marshall

General Nonfiction:
Toms River: A Story of Science and Salvation, by Dan Fagin

Poetry:
3 Sections, by Vijay Seshadri
